Our Lag Bolts 1/4 x 1-1/2 Stainless Steel in with a 6-Sided Hex Bolt Head. These screws feature deep wood screw threads. This design is to be used in applications where standard wood screws cannot support the load, such as deck building. They require a pilot hole to be drilled and can be installed using a wrench or socket tool. The screw's thread type is deep, with a gimlet point style. These lag screw bolts are used in place of standard wood screws whenever the mounting surface must bear a heavy load. The hex head allows for lag screws to be tightened with more torque than can be used on Phillips head screws. Note that lag screws do not accept nuts. This is because they are technically thick heavy-duty wood screws with threads designed to cut into the wood. These lag screw bolts are ideal for use on decks since installation can be accomplished without having access to both ends of the fastener, as opposed to standard hex bolts that require a nut on the opposite end.
