There are a lot of things to think about in order to figure out how much material you need for a fence:

1. Posts: Fence posts are usually spaced 6 to 8 feet apart, which means you need to measure your total fence length and then divide it by the spacing.
• For example: 200 feet of fence spaced 8 feet apart will require 25 posts.
2. Boards or Panels: To calculate the number of boards you need, you’ll need to know the width of each board. So, if your boards are 6 inches wide (0.5 feet), you’ll divide your total fence length by the board width.
• For example: 200 feet ÷ 0.5 feet = 400 boards
3. Rails: Most fences use 2 - 3 horizontal rails per section. Multiply the number of fence sections (based on post spacing) by the number of rails.
4. Nails and Screws: Each board needs several fasteners. Multiply the number of boards by the number of fasteners per board.
5. Concrete: Plan for about one bag of concrete per post to set them securely.
